START WITH YOUR WORKPLACE
What matters for your team.
HEALTHCARE & IMAGING
Keep people, departments, and records connected.
For programs subject to NRC rules, individual monitoring criteria and dose-record requirements are separate responsibilities. Section 20.2106 allows NRC Form 5 or equivalent records containing the required information; a routine badge report should not automatically be treated as the complete required record.
Prepare for the conversation
Map wearer assignments to departments and locations. Agree who reviews results, handles corrections, and follows up on missing badges. Ask how records can be exported and protected when staff move or a service changes.
DENTAL & VETERINARY PRACTICES
Start with your practice’s requirements.
Avoid choosing a badge service solely because another practice uses it. OSHA’s ionizing radiation standard includes personnel monitoring criteria tied to exposure conditions. Your program review should also identify applicable state requirements and facility-specific conditions.
Prepare for the conversation
Prepare an equipment list, work locations, worker roles, and existing radiation-safety procedures. Ask your radiation-protection lead to confirm who needs monitoring and which wear and exchange instructions apply.
UNIVERSITIES & RESEARCH LABORATORIES
Make changes in people and projects easier to manage.
For NRC-regulated activities, section 20.1502 addresses both external and internal occupational dose monitoring. External badges and internal monitoring are distinct parts of the assessment; the appropriate approach depends on the work.
Prepare for the conversation
Keep a current list of laboratories, supervisors, radiation sources, and monitored personnel. Include visiting researchers and project changes in your onboarding and offboarding process. Ask who approves changes to monitoring assignments.
INDUSTRIAL RADIOGRAPHY
Understand the full monitoring arrangement.
For NRC-licensed radiography subject to Part 34, section 34.47 requires a combination of monitoring devices, with a specified exception for alarm ratemeters at certain permanent installations. It also covers lost or damaged personnel dosimeters. One badge should not be assumed to meet every requirement.
Prepare for the conversation
Review the required devices and procedures with your RSO. Confirm assignment, shift checks, exchange arrangements, and the response to missing or damaged equipment before work begins.
OIL & GAS · NORM/TENORM
Evaluate the work, not just the industry label.
EPA identifies produced water, scale, sludge, and contaminated equipment as potential sources of technologically enhanced naturally occurring radioactive material (TENORM). Levels and conditions vary across operations.
Prepare for the conversation
Provide your radiation-protection specialist with available surveys and task details, especially for maintenance, cleaning, and waste handling. Ask which exposure pathways need assessment and whether personnel monitoring is appropriate for the specific work.
BEFORE YOU CHOOSE OR CHANGE A SERVICE
Ask about the whole experience.
Use these questions to compare service arrangements and plan a transition. They are purchasing and administration prompts, not a statement of LumiDose’s current capabilities.
Monitoring fit
Which radiation types, monitoring locations, and dose quantities does the proposed dosimeter cover? What documentation supports that suitability? Who confirms that the selection fits your program?
Wearer instructions
Who provides device-specific placement, storage, and exchange instructions? How will new staff receive those instructions? What is the process for a missing, damaged, or incorrectly worn badge?
Reporting & records
What does each report contain? Who answers questions and manages corrections? How are historical records, exports, and access permissions handled? Confirm the distinction between routine reports and required regulatory records.
Service continuity
Who owns the transition schedule? How will the final wear period, outstanding returns, new assignments, and historical record access be coordinated? Identify a contact and escalation path before switching.
